Custom Knowles · Enhanced Bass BA Drivers
FiiO worked closely with Knowles to develop a custom bass-balanced armature (BA) driver. By optimizing the airflow throughput, this driver delivers more energy, improving overall bass performance. The FA19 incorporates four of these custom drivers per channel, ensuring the bass is both detailed and powerful, resulting in a deep and impactful low end.
Negative Feedback Bass Enhancement System
The FA19 utilizes four custom enhanced bass BA drivers per channel, created in collaboration with Knowles. Engineers have employed precise DLP 3D printing technology to design a shell that channels low-frequency energy into the rear cavity, lowering the resonant frequency. This negative feedback bass enhancement system allows the FA19 to achieve bass depths that are rare in IEMs of its class, providing a truly profound bass experience.
Mid-Frequency Notch Filter
The FA19's smooth mid-frequency response comes from both the quality of its core drivers and careful tuning by professional acousticians. Equipped with two classic Knowles ED mid BA drivers, the FA19 maintains a high level of resolution that audiophiles appreciate. However, to avoid potential sibilance that could detract from the listening experience, a specially designed mid-frequency notch filter has been implemented at the base of these drivers.
Upgrade 1: Enhanced Mids
With the mid-frequency notch filter, the FA19 enhances sound pressure levels between 1kHz and 3kHz, avoiding a “hole” in the mids. This ensures the BA drivers maintain their detailed performance while making the mids sound more full and lifelike, as if the vocalist is right in front of you.
Upgrade 2: Sibilance Eliminated
The mid-frequency notch filter also reduces the 8kHz peak from the mid-range BA drivers, eliminating sibilance and smoothing the transition between mid and treble frequencies. This results in a more natural, clearer sound with improved overall clarity.
Upgrade 3: Refined Treble
The notch filter shifts the crossover point between drivers to 3.5kHz, effectively separating the mid and treble drivers. This ensures each set of drivers works optimally within its designated frequency range, achieving clearer, more refined treble without interference from the mid-range.
Rubycon Audiophile-Grade Crossover Capacitors
The FA19 ensures precise sound reproduction through its high-quality crossover components. Using audiophile-grade Rubycon film capacitors with an exceptionally low error tolerance of 0.1%, it achieves accurate crossover points. This results in enhanced high-frequency resolution and tonal clarity without compromising sound quality, far surpassing the typical precision of standard ceramic capacitors.
